East-Man Feeds provides comprehensive services, including on-farm consulting, animal nutritional information, genetics and breeding advice, and feed equipment calibration.
East-Man Feeds has celebrated many successful years in the feed industry. In August of 1970, Peter H. Friesen incorporated East-Man Feeds in the town of Steinbach, Manitoba.
East-Man Feeds began as a manufacturer of vitamin mineral premixes and supplements, and as a retailer of protein sources such as soybean meal. These products were used on farms to manufacture home-ground feeds for livestock and poultry. In 1973, East-Man Feeds opened its Head Office in Winnipeg and worked hard to obtain the business of approximately 45% of the hog premix industry in Manitoba by 1983.
In 1983, East-Man Feeds decided that we would concentrate on the premix feed business rather than follow our competitors into the fertilizer and ag-chemical fields. In 1983, expansion led East-Man Feeds to Lethbridge, Alberta. In 1985, demand from the northern Alberta market provided the opportunity to build a manufacturing facility in Red Deer. In 1987, East-Man Feeds further expanded to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.
In 1989, East-Man Feeds purchased a Specialty Feeds Plant in Winnipeg. This purchase included much-needed storage space for retail sales, warehousing, and accounting. Additionally, a warehouse was purchased in Huron, South Dakota, to supply an ever-growing market in the central Midwestern United States. In 1991, a premix plant was built in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, to facilitate manufacturing of our premix products to supply this expansive market.
Since 1991, East-Man Feeds has expanded with the acquisition of a premix facility at 196 Paquin Road in Winnipeg, Swift Current (Saskatchewan), and Brandon (Manitoba), so that we could better serve our customers in Western Canada. East-Man Feeds currently feeds 30% of all hogs produced in Western Canada.
